Phoenix Family Showcase - a Virtual Talent Show

TUNE IN STARTING AT 6:30PM FRIDAY, MARCH 25TH

Phoenix Family Showcase - a Virtual Talent Show

Combining family night and the talent show this year we have the student and family showcase! This year we are planning a special night to celebrate Phoenix families and students' talents and hobbies. Our showcase will be a fantastic display of who we are as individuals and what we can share with one another. Family night is baked right in this year, plan to have a watch party with your crew, order a pizza and get comfy as you sit back and enjoy the show! Be on the lookout for opportunities to donate to the PTO during the showcase.

Talking to your Kids about Race

The Chestnutwold PTO invite you to join us for a

Conversation about Race

Talking to your Kids about Race

What is race? What is racism? How do I talk to my kids (or students) about it?

Why should we talk about it?

Research shows not talking about race with children leaves them vulnerable to learning society's harmful stereotypes. This brief and informative training will be led by Denzell Stanislaus, a regional educator with a specialization in school counseling. This will be a non-judgmental, safe space for persons of all races, to help you build and share vital understandings and skills. You will leave with inspiration and resources on how to continue to grow and support others.

This virtual event will be on

February 23rd at 7pm

RSVP to confirm you attendance and a Zoom link will be shared closer to the event.

Hosted by the Chestnutwold PTO and open to all families in the community.

Service Ideas for MLK Day

Looking for a way to honor MLK Day? Here is a roundup of some local ways to get involved:

1. Make no-bake cookies, pack a breakfast bag, or read a book for English Language Learners through virtual or socially distanced volunteer opportunities organized by Beth Am Israel in Penn Valley

2. Donate to the
Main Line NAACP which represents Haverford Township or the BIPOC Parents of Haverford Township which continues Dr. King's legacy by focusing on improving diversity, equity, and inclusion in our education system, and surrounding community.

3. Attend the Main Line Martin Luther King Association Virtual Celebration on Sunday January 16th at 3:00 PM (see attached flyer)

4. Read a story about MLK's life, legacy, and the other freedom fighters of the Civil Rights Movement:

- My Brother Martin by Christine King Farris

- Voice of Freedom: Fannie Lou Hamer: Spirit of the Civil Rights Movement by Carole Boston Weatherford

- Through My Eyes by Ruby Bridges

5. Help out with the MLK Day Food & Supply Drive
The contactless drive will take place on Monday, January 17 from 9-11:30am in the Haverford Middle School bus lane (1701 Darby Road Havertown, Pa). You can support the thousands of Delaware County residents struggling to put food on the table at our MLK Day contactless food and supply drive. Haverford Township, with the help of the Haverford Education Foundation, will collect the non-perishable food, paper products, and other items and donate them to the Community Action Agency of Delaware County, Ardmore Food Pantry, Denis' Closet and Food Pantry, and other local organizations .Please place your donations in a paper/re-usable bag or box and put them in the back seat/trunk of your vehicle.
